Obstetrics
If you have had your "Confirmation of Pregnancy" or suspect you are 8 weeks pregnant or more, we will schedule you for an "OB Workup". During this visit there are several things to expect:
- New patients and returning patients will have several forms to fill out upon arrival. Prior to your visit, you can go to our website's "Patient Forms" and click on the forms that apply to you and fill them out. This will save time at check-in.
- A member of the medical staff will check your weight, blood pressure, and ask you to leave a urine sample labeled with your name on it (this will happen every visit to check for glucose and protein).
- Pelvic exam to include Pap smear and routine cervical cultures.
- Full medical exam to include breast exam.
- Routine blood tests are taken to determine blood type, Rh factor, and a complete blood count to make sure values are normal.
- You will also have tests to determine your immunity to German measles (Rubella) and for sexually transmitted diseases (Syphilis, Gonorrhea/Chlamydia, HIV and Hepatitis).
- If you are far enough along in your pregnancy at this visit, you may get to hear your baby's heartbeat (not usually before 10-12 weeks).
- Your Doctor will discuss many things with you at this first visit to include: diet and exercise, family, medical, obstetrical, and sexual history; what to expect related to future testing such as routine prenatal and optional genetic testing, and recommended weight gain in pregnancy.
- All your questions will be answered. It is always a good idea to write down a list of your questions to make sure all are addressed.
- Our office will assist you in finding the perfect obstetrician for your entire pregnancy and delivery.
